Version 3 sounds like a different take altogether. The sax solo on both sounds the same, but I suspect that’s because the sax player played the solo the same way both times. The woodblock “tick tock” effect on this version sounds very different. It sounds more like “tock tock” than “tick tock” because the pitch doesn’t vary the way it does on versions 1 and 2. This “tock tock” slows down a hair at the end and comes to a dead stop, rather than being faded out. There are also some subtle lyrical differences between this version and the other two. This version is available digitally only on unauthorized releases.

The first really significant nation-wide hit by any of the Nevilles. The song was on the Billboard’s Hot 100 chart for 14 weeks and peaked at #2. (It reached #1 on the R&B Charts.) It is available on dozens of compilations and Neville collections, including (among others) "Aaron Neville Greatest Hits" (Curb D2-77303) and "The Neville Brothers - Gold" (Hip-O Records B0004539-02). Aaron re-recorded the song for Island Records almost a decade later.
